Press Coverage of
The Gremlins Rough Cut
In early 2026, two long-rumored VHS tapes containing the original 1983 Gremlins first assembly rough cut were discovered by director Joe Dante and sent to the Gremlins Museum for preservation and restoration. What began as an archival project quickly gained unexpected attention following a private Los Angeles industry screening attended by filmmakers, producers, Gremlins 3 writers, and Joe Dante himself.
Here are a few select press clippings from this project's journey. For press inquiries or story requests, please contact press@gremlinsmuseum.com.

News of the Secret Los Angeles Screening
May 2026
Not long after, I was contacted about putting together a small private screening for the writers of Gremlins 3. That very quickly evolved into a screening attended by many of today’s top horror filmmakers and writers...along with Joe Dante himself. The Hollywood Reporter was also in attendance, and the article they published the following day exploded far beyond anything I could have imagined.
News breaks that the Gremlins Rough Cut tapes have been found.
February 2026
When the Gremlins rough cut tapes first arrived, I expected the project to be a relatively quiet restoration and editing effort focused on creating the Screening Cut. But after posting that the tapes had been found and delivered to the museum, the story quickly took on a life of its own and spread far beyond what I ever expected.
